The majority of the web hosting companies were unaffected by the events that influenced web reliability and stability in May. In the first week of the month, some networks were clogged by Sasser worm. On May 24, many websites with high traffic registered downtimes, when Akamai had some network problems. In addition, during the month denial of service attacks crippled some e-commerce and security websites.
Netcraft tracks and publishes the response times of the websites belonging to the fifty leading hosting providers. The response times are measured at 15-minute intervals from different points around the Internet and then average values are calculated over the immediately preceding 24-hour period.
