The online auction company eBay (www.ebay.com) announced on April 7 that it will set up a Phoenix data center in a 141,000-square-foot building that it bought for $16.295 million. The four-story building at 4010 N. Third St., which was built during the tech boom of the late 1990s, will house computer servers and a few employees to care for them.
The San Jose, California-based eBay already has three data centers in California and one in Denver, Colorado. eBay said that it has been expanding its data capacity to handle growth and install sites in diverse locations, reducing the risk of downtime from things like earthquakes and extreme weather.
