LCL Telehousing (www.lcl.be), a web hosting and co-location provider, announced on May 17, 2004 that has signed an agreement to buy Cable & Wireless’ (www.cw.com) data center facility in Antwerp, Belgium. Cable & Wireless has invested 1.2 million Euros in the 477 square-meter data center facility. Financial details of the deal were not revealed. According to LCL, the acquisition of Cable & Wireless’ data center makes it the largest independent co-location provider in Belgium and gives company the opportunity to offer disaster recovery services from both locations.
Laurens van Reijen, managing director of LCL Telehousing, said that for the company this represented a real opportunity to be able to assist the existing customers from Antwerp, but also to develop new activities. He stated that the building, situated around 40 kilometers from the data center in Diegem was perfectly adapted for disaster recovery and business continuity services. Van Reijen noted that as the only operator having hooked up data centers to different electricity suppliers and to different backbone operators, LCL Telehousing could supply its customers with total redundancy. He added that the company had observed an increase in requests from professional market with a view to solutions that ensure continuity for the critical applications and the company’s two centers allowed it to answer this requests without any problem.
