Saugatuck Technology (www.saugatech.com), has recently published a report, which sates that the development of true IT utility implementation will drive data center development through the rest of the decade. According to the report, the development will concentrate on growing data center virtualization, which would take place through several chronological phases with true IT utility computing realization starting around 2010. However, the report states that there are still obstacles remaining.
Bill McNee, founder and CEO of Saugatuck, stated that the greatest business challenges laid within the IT vendor community, mainly with respect to current vendor business models, which would change as the shift to utility computing frameworks took place gradually. He added that the main challenge for users would be how they shared resources and adapted their business operations to using IT as a virtual service.
Michael Isaac, senior consultant for Saugatuck and lead author of the report, said that how fast it utility would evolve depended upon a combination of business and technology factors. He added that Saugatuck believes that business inhibitors would clearly outweigh any technology challenges.
