TekTonic (www.tektonic.net), a web hosting provider specializing in virtual private servers (VPS), announced on May 18, 2004 that it has replaced User-Mode-Linux (UML) with Virtuozzo, the server virtualization software developed by SWsoft (www.sw-soft.com), a developer of hosting automation software. The two companies said that the switch would allow TekTonic to generate profit increases of 300 percent per server. Licenses for Virtuozzo are available both per server and per CPU power. The hosting automation software provides both command line and GUI tools.
Matt Ayres, president of TekTonic, said that from the beginning, the company immediately recognized the benefits of switching from UML to Virtuozzo. He added that UML placed the company on the right path, but Virtuozzo was saving TekTonic thousands of dollars and work-hours per month, giving the company the ability to scale to new heights of providing the most comprehensive VPS.
Tim O’Rourke, vice president of business development and sales for SWsoft, said that the company’s customers were assured to do more with Virtuozzo including more VPS per physical server and more revenue per VPS. He added that TekTonic selected Virtuozzo, because it was the only true VPS that streamlined its operations, lowered customer support cost and was focused on lowering its total cost of ownership.
