Peer 1 Network (www.peer1.net), a provider of bandwidth, co-location and web hosting services, announced on November 16, 2004 that it has launched its first European network point of presence in Telehouse’s Coriander data center in London, England. The London network point of presence links Peer 1 to the London Internet Exchange, granting access to the majority of European carriers. According to Peer 1, the move is a step to a larger presence on the European market.
Geoff Hampson, president and chief executive officer of Peer 1 Network, said that the company’s goals included becoming one of the world’s premier IP networks. He noted that while Peer 1 was well on its way to achieving this goal, it was absolutely essential that the company was able to offer the lowest latency and the most routes to its customers. Hampson sated that Peer 1’s engineers were constantly seeking greater route diversity, and the company’s connection to LINX gave it an improved ability to deliver the outstanding network that its clients had come to expect. He added that Peer 1 would move to provide co-location space, its main business, in the European market, once a solid network presence was set up.
Peer 1 said that it was already searching for potential mergers and acquisitions. The company recently bought ServerBeach, a dedicated hosting specialist.
