FastServers.net (www.fastservers.net), a web hosting provider, found last week that Islamic terrorist organizations were using Internet Services provided by FastServers.net to build websites. The FBI confirmed that authorities have been contacted by officials from FastServers.net, but refused to disclose any details. The company has closed one of the sites, but said it was waiting for instructions from FBI for closing the rest of the sites. The servers supposedly used by terrorist organizations are situated in Fremont, California.
Aaron Phillips, vice president of sales and marketing for Fastservers.net, said that the webmasters of the sites were most likely searching for web hosting retailers, giving them the opportunity to register accounts online to be able to operate undetected. Ian Andrusyk, president of Fast Servers.net, said that the company contacted FBI after learning that the websites were being operated by terrorist organizations. The company hosted Arabic-language websites used by the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, responsible for several suicide bombings in the Middle East; by Hamas, a militant Palestinian group; and for message forums used by al-Qaida supporters.
