IBM made known to have shifted its utility computing focus to more specialised applications. With regard to this, the company reported to have entered into
agreement with Lam Research, a maker of semiconductor fabrication gear, to provide a hosted design software service.
According to the new deal, Lam will utilize IBM's Web-based hosting service in order to make use of Parametric Technology's Windchill product design
applications. The company's hosted services also contain SAP's R/3 and other packaged applications. IBM's hosting service allows customers to save up-front
license charges and installation costs by being charged in compliance with usage.
