Charles Burrus, a 17-year old high school junior from Beaumont, Texas, runs his own web design business. His interest in business started when he was a first-grader and sold water and lemonade at a neighborhood stand and he has undertaken in several business ventures ever since.
Burrus said that his web design business, Site Solutions, which he started two years ago, has helped him a lot.
Burrus started Site Solutions when he was in ninth grade at Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School. He is currently a junior at the school.
The first website that Burrus designed was for his father’s company Burrus Contractor Supply. He has designed websites for eight local businesses. The site of Shepherd’s Uniform and Linen supply is among them. Burrus spends about three hours per week to provide maintenance for the websites that he has designed for profit and some as charity work.
Burrus said that the website of All Saint’s Episcopal School, for which he voluntarily provides technical support is his favorite. He was a student at the school and keeps fond memories of the time, when he studied there, Burrus added.
When he was a student at All Saint’s, Burrus started two other businesses – a custom CD burning business in sixth grade and a DJ service he started the same year with a classmate. Burrus and his friend still run the DJ business offering services for children and adult parties, weddings and school dances.
When asked what of the jobs he likes the most, Burrus said that the web design business was a great learning experience and the DJ business was more fun.
