The Web hosting provider Hostway Corp. (www.hostway.com) announced on March 3 that it is now accepting nominations for its third annual "High School Web Designers of the Future" contest. Co-sponsoring the contest will be Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley's Council of Technology Advisors. The contest is designed to challenge students to display their technical talents, whether they are self-taught or have taken Web design courses through their high schools.
A panel of judges for the contest comprised of representatives of the Mayor's Council of Technology Advisors, Junior Achievement Chicago and Hostway, will judge the students on the basis of content, structure and navigation, visual design, functionality and success of their Web sites. Chris O'Brien, CIO of the City of Chicago and co-chair of Mayor Daley's Council of Technology Advisors, said that this contest reflects the students' achievements and recognizes the talents they have developed.
The Chicago area "High School Web Site Designers of the Future" will reward two top-of-line laptop PCs and $2,000 in scholarships. This year's top winner will receive $1,000 scholarship and a Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop, while the second place winner will receive a $500 scholarship and a Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop. Third prize is a $500 scholarship. Hostway will accept entry submissions until May 9, and winners will be selected May 23.
