Movable Type has been considerably updated. The developer of the personal publishing platform/blogging software reported the availability of the 3.1 version. The new version adds several useful authoring capabilities along with some nice additions for the techies to the concept of Version 3.0 that was released three months ago.
The latest interpretation of Movable Type represents a great move towards removing the differentiation between a personal blogging tool and a proper Web
Content Management System. The newly-enhanced feature set includes the dynamic page functionality which enables users to opt for the best of static page
generation and dynamic page generation on a per-template basis, thus optimizing the performance of their weblog. In consequence, users are allowed to achieve the most efficient balance of fast rebuilds and low web server load.
Another key authoring feature added to the new MT version is the new category management interface. It provides users with full control over their organization and displays their posts. This way, authors are empowered to easily create new subcategories, and move a subcategory from one parent category to another by using a sleek, intuitive interface. Basing on David Raynes' SubCategories plugin, the subcategory support proves to be excitingly powerful.
The new MT feature set incorporates some fine quality capabilities for techies, as well. The Enhanced Application Callbacks feature bases on the MT 3.0 extensibility concept. The new application callbacks enable web developers to affiliate new actions with critical pieces of the application code. The added by plugins code can now be executed to filter comments and TrackBacks before they're posted, to hook into the publishing process, etc.
