Moore Innovations (www.mooreinnovations.com), a software developer, announced that it has introduced its WiderWeb service, allowing webmasters to design and provide accessible versions of their websites in real-time, in order to meet the regulations for website accessibility. The company said that the UK Disability Discrimination Act required that websites should be accessible to people with disabilities and indicated the clear deployment guidelines published by the W3C standards organization. According to Moore, however, these guidelines are poorly understood and expensive to realize resulting in a low level of compliance.
Moore’s WiderWeb simplifies the compliance issues for website operators, enabling them to put a link on their homepage, channeling user requests via the WiderWeb system. WiderWeb translates web pages into versions accessible for the disabled, before displaying them to the users. Page translation is continued automatically through the rest of the session. Moore said that the service was provided to webmasters for a monthly fee. A version of the service created web hosting companies was now also available, the company added. Moore started beta testing its WiderWeb service in August 2004.
