Monster Design (www.monsterinvasion.com), a Redmond, Washington-based graphic and web design firm, whose client list includes giants such as AT&T Wireless, Honeywell, Microsoft and Starbucks, announced on December 6 that it has completed the design of the United Nations web site for the Year of Microcredit 2005. The site can be found at www.yearofmicrocredit.org. The Year's goal is to provide greater access to credit, savings, insurance, transfer remittances and other financial services for disadvantaged households in order to move towards more secure livelihoods and prosperous futures.
Christina Barrineau, spokesperson for the United Nations International Year of Microcredit initiative, said that Monster Design was chosen for this project because of their fresh approach to web design and United Nations’ confidence that they could communicate United Nations’ mission to the important audiences United Nations is trying to reach with the launch of the International Year of Microcredit, and that this web site helps to attract and inform more and more people and organizations who want to invest in these kinds of wonderful possibilities.
Theresa Monica, co-founder of Monster Design, said that Monster Design’s experience designing for non-profits, especially its work for the Redmond-based Unitus, one of the world's leading microfinance organizations, brought Monster Design to the attention of the United Nations, and that this project was gratifying to work on because microcredit really exemplifies how such a small amount of money can completely change a person's life.
