The Fire Department of Norwalk is glad to report the launch of its completely refurbished web site - norwalkfd.com. The new look and feel of the department's web page come to make up for the lack of public attitude and actuality characteristic of its predecessor. The new vision of the web site was created in collaboration with Central Connecticut State University Professor Eleanor Thornton.
The new web site will certainly make The Norwalk Fire Department much more accessible to both the public and other departments. In contrast to the out-of-date content of the previous site, the new one contains up-to-date articles and photographs of the fire department and its equipments, summary of calls the department has responded to in 2004, a history of the department, as well as information on each of the five departments in the city.
The creation of the new web site is largely due to the invaluable assistance of Eleanor Thornton, who is a Professor at the Design Department of Central Connecticut State University, in New Britain Connecticut, who has done a great job, saving the city a great deal of money. Her expertise contributed a lot to the professional appearance of the web site. As a great benefit is considered the educational section of the page, including fire prevention facts, firefighting tools and apparatus, photos from 'NFD in Action' and links for children with interactive game-like learning features.
The new web site launch was presented at the Board of Fire Commissioners. According to firefighter Paul Burton, one of the creators of the Web site, the creation process took four months and 1,000 hours to complete. He also added that the total cost of the site was just $350, including the purchase of a domain name as well as the software needed to design it. Expressing his gratitude to the professional, resource-saving intervention of Eleanor Thornton in this process, on behalf of the whole department, Mr. Burton said that the actual cost of the site would have been about $40,000.
