Andrew Weinreich, founder of Friendster, has stared I Stand For (www.istandfor.com), an application service provider for political candidates and membership groups. I Stand For is intended to be a one-stop place offering tools necessary to create a completely functional website that uses the patented social networking technology behind Friendster and Six Degrees networking applications.
Andrew Weinreich, CEO of I Stand For, said that his vision five years ago was to revolutionize social networking. He stated that now it was to revolutionize building member and constituent bases for political campaigns, not-for-profit organizations and other member based businesses. Weinreich noted that he was quite surprised at how social networking, used extensively in the business world, has not been adopted by political and non-profit organizations. He continued to say you spent all this money in a campaign to reach new people – to bring in your base and expand it exponentially – but politics had yet to employ effective social networking. Weinreich added that the business world recognized the friends telling friends telling friends had always been the best marketing technique and it had constantly worked on using this effectively.
