Scirus (www.scirus.com), one of the most comprehensive science, technical and medical-specific search engines available on the Internet, covering more than 167 million pages and pinpointing STM information that other search engines cannot reach, including PDF files and peer reviewed articles, received the 2004 Best Directory or Search Engine WebAward (www.webaward.org) on September 15 from the Web Marketing Association, a Boston-based organization founded with the purpose of evaluating and recognizing the standard of excellence on the World Wide Web.
Over 1500 entries from around the world were judged in this year's competition. Entries were judged against ever-increasing Internet standards and peers on a worldwide basis, and the assessment included overall design, innovation, content, technology, interactivity, copywriting and ease of use.
Ammy Vogtlander, general manager of Scirus, said that Scirus is proud to receive such a respected international award recognizing its commitment to providing an unbiased and user-friendly resource for Web searching, and that Scirus’s team of experts in search technology and science is continuously expanding the index to ensure it remains as comprehensive as possible.
