The contest, open to the general public, will be announced during the Homecoming match-up between Cal and UCLA on October 16.
Earlier this summer, LookSmart and Cal Athletics began promoting Cal Bears Search(TM) to Cal's students, 20 000 faculty and staff and 165 000 alumni living in the Bay Area and beyond. In a unique partnership, advertising on the search engine supports the university's athletic programs while supplying highly relevant search results to Cal students and alumni.
The search engine can be accessed on CalBears.com, CalBearsSearch.com and via a toolbar application. Cal Bears Search provides results powered by LookSmart's proprietary search technologies and 1.2 billion URL index. Each time users click on a paid listing, a portion of the revenue goes to support Cal Athletics. Cal Bears Search also features free access to LookSmart's FindArticles, which offers the Internet's largest full text article database with 5.5 million articles across 900 publications.
