Search engine giant Google (www.google.com) announced on October 13 that Hyderabad, the tech city of Andhra Pradesh, has attracted Google to set up its second center in India, the first being in Bangalore, due to its large technology talent pool, competitive economic environment and infrastructure. Hyderabad will be home to Google's engineering, online sales, operations and human resource functions.
The Google AdWords (https://adwords.google.com), which supports the global advertising related activity and generates revenues for the corporation, will also be supported from Hyderabad. The center in Bangalore is expected to continue on the research and development work.
Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin are currently touring India to explore opportunities and closer ties. A meeting with the President, APJ Abdul Kalam, took them by surprise as, "He knew more about Google than most of us," according to them. They also discussed with India's scientist President the possibilities of enhancing the search tool for research and education, while benefiting the visually challenged too.
The search engine, which supports over one hundred languages including some of the Indian languages, is also planning to set up centers in Russia, China and Japan. The two founders had opened a center in Dublin, Ireland, before landing in India.
