Mainichi Daily News (http://mdn.mainichi.co.jp) announced on October 19 that the two founders of the search engine giant Google (www.google.com), Sergey Brin and Larry Page, flew into Tokyo to introduce themselves to Japan's media and to promote a number of projects in Japan, including the establishment of a research and development center. And while Brin and Page didn't announce specific details about when the center will go into operation, they did say that a Japanese version of Google's desktop search tool released internationally last week was being hurriedly developed.
Brin and Page expressed confidence that the Japanese research and development team would develop new products not only for Japan, but also for the scores of countries covered by Google's growing international empire. The multinational now employs around 10 000 translators of 100 different languages. The company is also working hard to stop search engine optimizers from distorting search results. Brin said that there are many SEOs that are trying to manipulate Google, that Google’s biggest message is that through its products it wants to promote a better and healthier service.
Brin and Page also said that Google is also looking to develop new services for the mobile Internet. When asked about which country has the highest incidence of search queries related to sex, Brin was quick to answer that it is clearly Japan, but added that sex searches worldwide are on a downward trend as the Internet matures.
