The search engine giant Google Inc. (www.google.com) announced on March 29 that it has agreed to acquire Urchin Software Corp. (www.urchin.com), a Web analytics company, for an undisclosed sum. The deal is expected to be completed before the end of April.
The San Diego, California-based Urchin helps website owners and marketers to understand how customers use websites and track marketing performance. Urchin's software is available as a hosted service, a software product and through large Web hosting providers. Google said that it plans to make these tools available to website owners and marketers to enable them to increase their advertising return on investment and make their websites more effective.
