FindIsland (www.findisland.com), a new search engine launched on August 1 whose results are powered by the search giant Google, is offering an IIO (Initial IPOD Offering) to counter Google’s IPO. Every time a person searches with FindIsland, he or she gets another entry into an August 31 lottery to win an Apple iPod Mini.
FindIsland gives registered users an entry point, like a lottery ticket, for every search conducted from the site’s main page. Those points can be automatically entered into monthly lotteries for big ticket items, or users can decide how many points to contribute to each contest and earn points by referring friends and by participating in offers like eBay, AOL and Real Networks.
Eli Feldblum, CEO of FindIsland, said that search engines already benefit so much from their users in refining their technology, in ad revenue and in stock offerings that FindIsland decided to give something back. CTO Jeremy Braff explained that FindIsland is just trying to make Google and searching the web in general a better experience for people.
