The Associated Press (www.ap.org) announced on June 2 that ICANN (www.icann.org) has approved .xxx domains and asked porn websites to have .xxx as their domain instead of .com. Sexually explicit sites will be encouraged to move to the new domains to make it easier for people to filter and avoid them. The $12 billion online porn industry can begin buying .xxx domain names by this fall or winter for $60 each.
The .xxx domain administrator ICM Registry (www.icmregistry.com) said that adopting a home in the adult content domain is voluntary, and that ICM Registry expects over 1.2 million registrations for the .xxx domain.
